Lanzhou Muslim Traditional Beef Stretched Noodles - Simple, Satisfying Halal Staple in Shanghai
Decent halal beef noodles in Shanghai, but the place was dirty and uncomfortable — food was okay, environment was the biggest downside.
If there's anything more authentic that one should try in Shanghai is this bowl of noodles. The meal was simple, honest and Halal!
The image above pretty much sums it up — no fancy plating, no storytelling required. Just bowls and plates of halal Chinese food done properly.
What We Ordered
- Braised Lamb Noodles
- Beef Noodles
- Beef Dumplings
Was It Good?
Yes — the food itself was fine.
Warm, filling, and tasted decent.
Not amazing, not disappointing. Just okay, in a good way.
We finished everything, which usually means the food did its job.
Pricing
The price was between 15RMB to around 40RMB (~SGD3-6) which is considered affordable
Food came hot. Portion were decent, nothing tasted weird or off. I'd come back any day to have this bowl of noodles.
The Turn-Off (Being Honest)
If there was one thing that stood out — the place was dirty and uncomfortable.
This was easily the worst environment we encountered in Shanghai compared to other places we ate at:
- Tables didn’t feel clean
- Overall hygiene felt questionable
- Seating wasn’t comfortable
It didn’t ruin the meal, but it did make us want to leave as soon as we were done.
Would I Go Back?
Probably not — not because of the food, but because of the environment.
If takeaway was an option, maybe.
But for sitting down, there were better, cleaner places elsewhere in Shanghai.
If you’re nearby and just want a quick halal meal, it works.
If cleanliness and comfort matter to you, there are better options in Shanghai.
